First, an acknowledgment that Hong Kong might technically be part of China, but it’s not really China. Mainland China, we’ll visit you next time—consider yourselves warned!

You’ll notice lots of room for more experiences on this page. That’s because Hong Kong was a bonus parting gift, and the perfect exit point for the Asia segment of our trip. We were only here for a long weekend, but managed to fit in tons of sights and activities, including:

  • Ocean Park, an amusement park on the island, perched atop a series of hilltops, and offering gorgeous views alongside its thrill rides, aquarium and general people-watching.

  • Several really excellent museums, including the Science Museum and the Hong Kong Museum of History.

  • Hong Kong at night, including Victoria Harbor’s fantastic light show, a nightly symphony of music and (duh) lights, that will stop you in your tracks. Actually, the crowds alone are enough to do that.
